The Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade. In this moment, it's more important than ever to support the people who will continue to provide abortion care in the South.

The court gutted the 1973 ruling that made abortion a federally protected choice in this country, but reproductive justice oriented community care will never fail us.

Abortion providers in the South have long been warning of and preparing for this moment as they've navigated a landscape in which safe and legal abortion access was already heavily restricted, where Black and brown pregnancies have long been criminalized, and where traveling long distances for care has been the norm for those in rural communities. 

It's more important than ever for our media to cover abortion providers without contributing to misinformation, without furthering stigma, and without exploiting individuals who need abortions.

Alabama

  • Alabama Cohosh Collaborative: Provides in-clinic abortion doula support for people having surgical procedures at Alabama Women's Center in north Alabama at no cost. Email alabamacohosh@gmail.com for more information.

  • West Alabama Women's Center Inc.: An abortion clinic and full-spectrum reproductive health center in Tuscaloosa, Alabama that provides abortion, birth control options, telehealth consults for non-abortion related procedures and gender-affirming, evidence-based preventative reproductive health services. 
  • Yellowhammer Fund: Provides funding for anyone seeking care at one of Alabama's three independent abortion clinics and, in some cases, for care at Feminist Women's Health Center in Atlanta and DuPont Clinic in Washington, D.C. Call 844-935-5386 for assistance. A case manager will return your call, as directed, within 12 hours.

Arkansas:

  • Arkansas Abortion Support Network: Works to reduce barriers to abortion access in Arkansas through clinic escorting, abortion funding, and community outreach and education. AASN provides abortion support services to Arkansans regardless of race, gender identity, religion, socioeconomic status, ability, incarceration, or citizenship status.
  • Arkansas Coalition for Reproductive Justice: A multi-organization collective that hosts an annual Rally for Reproductive Justice at the Arkansas State Capitol.

Florida

  • ARC-Southeast: Provides financial assistance or practical support (rides, lodging, or escorting), to people in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Call 855-227-2475 or submit an online support request.
  • Broward Women's Emergency Fund: provides small grants through the three clinics we work with to help people cover the cost of surgical or medication abortion. When you call for your appointment, let the clinic know you would like help with funding, and they will contact the Broward Women's Emergency Fund.
  • Emergency Medical Assistance, Inc.: Works with local providers to offer medical advice, childcare, financial support, referrals, lodging and more to those seeking abortion care. Call 561-271-5164 or email info@emawpb.org for more information.
  • Florida Access Network: Offers financial assistance with client appointment, travel, lodging, and childcare costs to reduce barriers to abortion care in Florida. Complete their support request form for assistance: https://www.flaccessnetwork.org/get-help 
  • Tampa Bay Abortion Fund: provides financial assistance for individuals seeking abortion from any of the clinics listed on their website. After you have made your appointment with one of their partner clinics, call 727-314-3956 to answer a few intake questions. You will have your call returned within 24-48 hours by one of their volunteers. 

Georgia

  • ARC-Southeast: Provides financial assistance or practical support (rides, lodging, or escorting), to people in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Call 855-227-2475 or submit an online support request.
  • SisterSong is the largest national multi-ethnic Reproductive Justice collective. The Birth Justice Care Fund is a SisterSong Birth Justice Team needs-based initiative, for Georgia and North Carolina residents, in response to the social crisis that communities of color are experiencing more critically now due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The relief funds are intended for Black and other birthing people of color, especially Queer and Trans folks in need of support during their pregnancy and within one year postpartum.

Kentucky

Louisiana

  • The three abortion providers in Louisiana are: Women's Health Care Center in New Orleans, Delta Clinic in Baton Rouge, and Hope Medical Group for Women in Shreveport.
  • New Orleans Abortion Fund: Helps you pay for your abortion and other costs that may make it difficult to access (like gas money or a hotel stay). Call 844-44ABORT (844-442-2678) and leave a message with your name, phone number and whether the NOAF phone counselor can leave a message. Someone will call you back within 24 hours.
  • Birthmark Doula Collective: This birth-justice organization provides childbirth education, birth doula, and postpartum doula services as well as lactation support to pregnant and parenting people in New Orleans. The collective offers a sliding-scale for qualifying families.

Mississippi

  • ARC-Southeast: Provides financial assistance or practical support (rides, lodging, or escorting), to people in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Call 855-227-2475 or submit an online support request.
  • Mississippi Reproductive Freedom Fund: Provides funding for abortion, Plan B, transportation, lodging, child care and travel for all residents of Mississippi, regardless of where they seek abortion care, and anyone who has an abortion in Mississippi. They also have abortion doula services, Spanish translation on request as well as offering logistical support referrals and limited aftercare.   • 601 for Period Equity: This Black woman-led, grassroots is based in Vicksburg and Jackson, MS is focused on ending period shame through advocacy and mutual aid that provides menstruators the products they need in the form of free period care packages. North Carolina 

  • Carolina Abortion Fund: CAF operates a confidential, toll free helpline that provides financial, practical, and emotional support to callers in North and South Carolina trying to access abortion care. Call 855-518-4603 to speak to a caseworker.
  • Mountain Area Abortion Doula Collective (MAADCo): Supports people seeking abortion in the greater Asheville area with logistics support, emotional support and aftercare.
  • Pro-Choice North Carolina: A statewide organization that works to combat the inflammatory rhetoric and the systems designed to stigmatize abortion, leading to violence against people seeking to access abortion and the people working to provide that care. 
  • ​​Triangle Abortion Access Coalition: A collective of pro-choice volunteers who oppose anti-choice harassment in the Raleigh/Durham area. Volunteer as a clinic escort.

Oklahoma 

  • Oklahoma Call for Reproductive Justice: A grassroots group, founded in 2010, working to protect the rights and privacy of all Oklahomans in their reproductive health decisions.
  • Roe Fund: Provides direct financial support and clinic escorts to people seeking abortion care in Oklahoma. Call (918) 481-6444 or email okrcrc@gmail.com with questions.

South Carolina

  • ARC-Southeast: Provides financial assistance or practical support (rides, lodging, or escorting), to people in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Call 855-227-2475 or submit an online support request.

  • Magnolia Fund: works to identify and eliminate barriers to abortion access in the Southeast through financial and practical support.
  • Palmetto State Abortion Fund: Funds abortions in South Carolina and offers emotional and logistical support.

Tennessee

Earlier this year, one of only seven abortion-providing clinics in Tennessee was destroyed by arson—the second attack in a year at the same location.

  • Memphis Choices: Offers medication and procedural abortions, gynecological wellness care, gender-affirming hormone management, HIV testing and referrals, no-cost birth control, midwife-led prenatal care and births, and more.
  • Mountain Access Brigade: Provides support for reproductive health access and abortion care, including abortion doula services, education, practical support, and financial assistance. Text or call their confidential support line at 855-888-6228 and leave a message. A doula will return your message within 24 hours.
  • Planned Parenthood of Tennessee and North Mississippi: Provides medication abortions and in-clinic abortions to those who need them. The first day cost is $275 and will be applied to your total. Financial assistance is available for those who qualify. Call 866-711-1717 to see if you qualify.

Texas

  • ActBlue abortion fund: Hosted by Avow Texas, this fund collectively raises money for 10 abortion funds in Texas.
  • The Afiya Center: Provides childcare assistance, food, transportation, escorts (to & from clinics), abortion & birthing doulas, financial assistance through their Support Your Sistah program as well as other reproductive justice programming.   • Bridge Collective: Provides rides to and from clinics in Central Texas, as well as volunteer accommodations and other practical support as needed. Delivers free emergency contraception & pregnancy tests in the Austin area. (512) 524-9822 
  • Buckle Bunnies: Provides financial aid, material support, and resources for abortion seekers across Texas.
  • Clinic Access Support Network: Provides drives to and from clinics in the Houston area, rideshares, bus tickets, gas money, childcare support, compassionate care, lodging, and procedure funding (in limited cases). Virginia

  • Blue Ridge Abortion Fund: Offers grants to reduce the cost of abortion, transportation, lodging, and other abortion related expenses. Call 434-963-0669 and leave a message on our confidential voicemail, and one of our trained intake coordinators will return your call within 48 hours. Spanish language support is available.
  • New River Abortion Access Fund: Provides financial and practical support for abortion care in Southwest Virginia and Appalachia. For assistance, call or text their confidential helpline at 833-672-2310 or fill out their online support request form.
  • Richmond Reproductive Freedom Project: Helps residents of Virginia pay for assistance for abortion, transportation, lodging, meals, and ultrasounds. You need to be at least 8 weeks pregnant to use this fund, although exceptions can be made. Call 888-847-1593 or email hello@rrfp.net

West Virginia

  • Holler Health Justice: A BIPOC- & queer-led racial, economic, and reproductive justice nonprofit in West Virginia. From abortion funding to harm reduction, their fully volunteer team provides mutual aid to Appalachians most in need. Call 1-833-465-5379 or email holler@hollerhealthjustice.org  
  • Women's Health Center of West Virginia: Provides money to help people pay for their abortions. You can also receive other care from their clinic like STD testing, cancer screening and birth control. If you're concerned about paying for your abortion, call (304) 344-9834.
